Isabel Coixet (born April 9, 1960 in Barcelona , Catalonia region , Spain ) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter who initially worked successfully in the advertising industry and lives in Catalonia.

Life

Coixet grew up in a communist family under the Franco regime. She studied history with a focus on contemporary history at the University of Barcelona .

At 19 she was already working as a copywriter. She later became creative director and commercial director at the advertising agency JWT and founded the creative agency Target and the production companies Edie Saeta and Miss Wasabi Films . She also wrote for the Spanish film magazine Fotogramas .

She has also won numerous awards for her advertising work; Her customers included the BT Group , Ford , Danone , BMW , Ikea , Evax, Renault , Peugeot , Winston , Kronenbourg , Pepsi , Kellogg’s , MCI, Helene Curtis, Procter & Gamble and AT&T .

In 2004 her autobiographical essays La vida es un guión (Life is a screenplay) were published in Spain .

She made her feature film debut in 1989 with Demasiado viejo para morir joven , for which she also wrote the screenplay. Her next film came out in 1996 with What I've never told you before . The award-winning drama starred Lili Taylor and Andrew McCarthy . Coixet's breakthrough came with My Life Without Me from 2003. The screenplay she wrote for the film is about a young woman who learns that she is terminally ill and who wants to do things in her remaining time that she has not done before Has. At the 2006 Goyas , her next film, The Secret Life of Words, dominated . Her film A Map of the Sounds of Tokyo took part in the competition at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival 2009 . Your film Nobody Wants the Night was the opening film of the 65th Berlinale . Her film Der Buchladen der Florence Green (The Bookshop / La librería) was awarded the Goya for Best Film , Best Director and Best Screenplay in 2018 .
