The Communauté de communes du Grand Saint-Émilionnais is a French association of municipalities with the legal form of a Communauté de communes in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It is named after the small town of Saint-Émilion and was founded on December 14, 2012 and comprises 22 parishes. The administrative seat is in Vignonet .
Historical development
The community association was created from the merger of the predecessor organizations Communauté de communes de la Juridiction de Saint-Émilion and Communauté de communes du Lussacais as well as six municipalities in the canton of Castillon-la-Bataille .

geography
location
The association of municipalities is located about 30 to 40 kilometers east of Bordeaux in the northeast of the Gironde department. The most important river is the Dordogne , which forms its border in the west and south.
landscape
The landscape profile is slightly wavy. Large parts of the area are occupied by vineyards; cereals are only grown on a small part. The lowest point at just one meter above sea level. d. M. is located in the municipality of Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens on the Dordogne; the highest point at 337 meters above sea level. d. M. is located on the territory of the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes. Most of the villages are at altitudes between 20 and 80 meters above sea level. d. M.
climate
The climate is largely influenced by the Atlantic . In summer, the maximum daily temperatures rise to 30 to 35 ° C. In winter it is cooler, with daytime temperatures below 10 ° C being rare. Most of the precipitation falls in the winter months.
history
The menhir de Peyrefitte on the territory of the commune of Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens is the most important evidence from the time of the megalithic cultures (approx. 4th millennium BC). The municipal area of Lussac were Gallo-Roman discoveries made. In the Middle Ages, the pilgrimage site of Saint-Émilion played an important role in the region. The three Romanesque churches of today's Montagne parish also bear witness to the importance of the region at this time.
economy
The whole area of the association of municipalities is determined by viticulture, with the appellation Saint-Émilion (AOC) occupying the largest area. But smaller growing areas may also use the name Saint-Émilion as part of the name (e.g. Lussac-Saint-Émilion , Montagne-Saint-Émilion or Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion ).
Attractions
The landscape particularly impressed by the seemingly endless wine fields around Saint-Emilion to an entry in the list of UNESCO - World Heritage have helped. The main cultural attraction of the region is the city of Saint-Emilion with its rock church and many other monuments historiques . The three Romanesque churches in the Montagne community are also worth seeing. The Château de Lussac deserves a special mention among the numerous wine chateaus .
