Lussac is a southwestern French municipality with 1261 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

Lussac is about 50 meters above sea level. d. M. The distance to Libourne is about 15 kilometers (driving distance) in a south-westerly direction; It's a good nine kilometers to Saint-Emilion .

economy
Viticulture has been practiced in the municipality for centuries. The wines produced are now marketed through the Lussac-Saint-Émilion (AOC) appellation. The rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) and cultural and wine tourism also play an important role in the income of the municipality.
history
The name of the place is derived from a Gallo-Roman with the name Lucius . Around 1890 the remains of a country estate ( villa rustica ) from Gallo-Roman times were discovered on a parcel called Barat .
Attractions
- The parish church of Saint-Alexis is a neo-Gothic building from the 19th century with a high pointed tower ( flèche ) that rises above an entrance portico that is open on three sides.
- The Château de Lussac , a two-storey building from the 18th century, is located on the outskirts and forms the end of a well-tended garden. In the lower area of the two steeply towering roofs there are porthole windows .
- The Château Haut-Piquat is another renowned winery; it stands in the middle of the vineyards.
- The Mégalithe de Picampeau (also Pierre des martyrs ) is a lying limestone block near the Château Haut-Piquat ; whether he ever stood up is unclear. It is associated with Celtic sacrificial ceremonies.
