history
Some local researchers derive the place name from the Latin place name Titiacum , which can be traced back to the Roman or Gallo-Roman name Titus . From the early Middle Ages, sparse remains of a mound ( moth ) have survived near the train station. In the 15th century, the place apparently experienced a period of relative prosperity - substantial parts of the current parish church as well as the Château de Taillefer and the Commanderie de Lataste date from this time .

In the 19th century the community usually had between 400 and 500 inhabitants. The phylloxera crisis and the increasing mechanization of agriculture led to a gradual decline in the number of inhabitants in the second half of the 19th and first half of the 20th century, to the lowest levels in the 1960s and 1970s. Due to the relative proximity to the city of Bordeaux and the significantly lower property prices in the country, there has been a slight increase in the population over the past few decades.
Attractions
- Of the originally Romanesque parish church of Saint-Pierre , which stands in the middle of the cemetery , only the unadorned apse with its dome has survived . The nave , however, was renewed in the 15th century and stabilized by buttresses ; it received large windows and an imposing ribbed vault . Large parts of the west facade, which was revised again in the 19th century, with its Gothic portal and the two-part bell gable also date from this time .
- The privately owned and ivy-covered Château de Taillefer still has a stair tower from the 15th century; the rest of the building is more recent.
- The Commanderie de Lataste is a handsome three-wing building from the 15th and 17th centuries.
- The former Moulin de Charlot has been converted into a restaurant.
economy
For centuries, Tizac-de-Lapouyade lived from agriculture, which also includes viticulture, which today occupies the largest acreage in the municipality and is marketed through the Bordeaux (AOC) and Bordeaux Supérieur (AOC) appellations. But tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) also contributes to the municipality's income.
