Château de Monbadon

Puisseguin is a commune with 856 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Libourne and the canton of Le Nord-Libournais . The inhabitants are called Puisseguinais . Neighboring municipalities are Lussac in the north, Tayac in the northeast, Saint-Cibard in the east, Saint-Philippe-d'Aiguille in the southeast, Saint-Genès-de-Castillon in the south and Montagne in the west.

Toponymy

The name Puisseguin comes from the Occitan term puy , which means mountain , and from the name Seguin , a lieutenant under Charlemagne .

In Occitan the municipality is called Pèi Seguin .

On October 23, 2015, a serious bus accident occurred in the municipality with 43 dead.

economy

As the municipality is located in the Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion wine region , wine production is an important economic sector. Since November 14, 1936, the wine-growing region has been protected by the AOC seal , which guarantees its origin.
