Francs is a southwestern French community with 189 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
location
Francs is at a height of about ten 40 meters above sea level. d. M. and is about 25 kilometers (driving distance) in an easterly direction from Libourne . Saint-Emilion is about 18 kilometers to the southwest.

economy
Viticulture has been practiced in the municipality for centuries. The wines produced are now marketed through the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur (AOC) appellations. The rental of holiday homes ( gîtes ) and cultural and wine tourism also play an important role in the income of the municipality.
history
Little information is available about the origin of the place, according to which the place name goes back to the Franconian tribe, who left an army department here after the battle of Vouillé and the expulsion of the Visigoths to the Iberian Peninsula .
Attractions
- The parish church of Saint-Martin is a single-nave building from the 17th century, but its facade is strangely designed entirely in the style of the Poitevine Romanesque (multi-storey structure, triumphal arch scheme in the portal zone, blind arcades and bell gables above). The church was recognized as a monument historique as early as 1908 .
- The Château de Francs dates from the 18th century and is located on the outskirts. A representative inner courtyard extends in front of the two-storey - privately owned - building.
