Confessions is the fourth studio album by the US R&B singer Usher .

With more than 15 million units sold worldwide (around 9 million of them in the USA alone ), the long player is one of the most successful albums of 2004.

The original version of the album spawned four singles, including the Lil Jon production Yeah! who have favourited US release Confessions (Part II) , Caught Up and the mid-tempo ballad Burn .

In October 2004 a special edition of the album was released. The re-release includes the duet My Boo with Alicia Keys , as well as two unreleased tracks and an additional remix.

style

According to the e-zine laut.de , the album can largely be assigned to contemporary R&B, but also to soul and hip-hop . While the release Yeah! With synthetic elements, the rest of the album, with the exception of the song Bad Girl, is less dancefloor- related. Laut.de sees similarities with Michael Jackson , Justin Timberlake and Prince in terms of “singing skills” and vocal range .

The lyrics mostly deal with love affairs that Usher processes through the songs.

reception

The album was well received in both German-language and US media such as the All Music Guide .

The Internet portal CDstarts.de praises Usher's variety of voices and the variety that the album offers.

"There is hardly any negative to report, because all 17 tracks from beginning to end are worth listening to."

- Vittorio Ditta (CDstarts.de) about Confessions

The e-zine laut.de also praises the productions of Jermaine Dupri ( My Boo , Burn ), although Usher would have taken more risk . Even if the album had become a classic with more musical ideas , laut.de describes the album as very good .

"With his performance on" Confessions "Usher comes dangerously close to Justin Timberlake, Jacko's unofficial successor."
