Craig Lee Ludwig (born March 15, 1961 in Rhinelander , Wisconsin ) is a former American ice hockey player and coach who played 1433 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , New York Islanders , Minnesota between 1979 and 1999 North Stars and Dallas Stars played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender . Ludwig won the Stanley Cup twice a year during his 17 seasons in the NHL1986 with the Canadiens de Montréal and in 1999 with the Dallas Stars. His sons CJ Ludwig , Trevor Ludwig and Tyler Ludwig were also professional ice hockey players.
Career
Craig Ludwig began his career as a hockey player on the University of North Dakota team , where he was active from 1979 to 1982. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1980 in the third round as a total of 61st player by the Canadiens de Montréal . For the Canadians, the defender made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1982/83 season , giving 25 templates in a total of 83 games in his rookie year . In the 1985/86 season he won the prestigious Stanley Cup with Montréal for the first time in his career . Three years later he failed with his team in the finals at the Calgary Flames .
After he had spent the 1990/91 season through a swap deal with Gerald Diduck with the New York Islanders , the American joined the Minnesota North Stars . He remained loyal to the franchise even after it moved to Dallas and renamed it Dallas Stars . With the Texans he ended his active career following the 1998/99 season , in which he won the Stanley Cup for the second time.
In the 2000/01 season, Ludwig worked as an assistant coach for the Utah Grizzlies from the International Hockey League . In the same position he worked the following year at his ex-club Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League.
