Cropani is an Italian city in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 4790 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Cropani is located 35 km east of Catanzaro about 5 km from the sea. The neighboring municipalities are Andali , Botricello , Cerva , Sellia Marina and Sersale .

history

Cropani was founded in the 10th century. The place belonged to the county of Belcastro . In the 16th century the place was destroyed by the Turks. Buildings were badly damaged by the earthquake in 1783.

Attractions

The cathedral dates from the 15th century. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary . The church of Santa Lucia has a remarkable wooden ceiling and single arched windows. The collegiate church dates from the 14th century. There are salt springs in the vicinity of the village .
