Nocera Terinese is an Italian city in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 4760 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Nocera Terinese is located 60 km west of Catanzaro on the lower reaches of the Savuto . The neighboring municipalities are Amantea ( CS ), Cleto (CS), Falerna , Lamezia Terme , Martirano Lombardo and San Mango d'Aquino .

Viticulture

In the municipalities of Nocera Terinese and Falerna there has been a "controlled designation of origin " (Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC ) with the name Scavigna DOC , which was last updated on March 7, 2014 , since 1994 . White , rosé and red wines can be produced under this name .

Attractions

The church of S. Francesco, built in the 15th and 16th centuries, is worth seeing. The church was built in the Gothic style and has Catalan influences. Other churches are the Church of the Annunziata from the 17th century and the Church of the Addolorata. The Procida house has a 16th century portal.

In Italy there are only three places where flagellant processions take place: Guardia Sanframondi , Verbicaro and Nocera Terinese. In Nocera Terinese, the scourging men roam the streets on Holy Saturday .
