Lungomare di Soverato

Soverato is an Italian commune and city in the province of Catanzaro in the Calabria region with 8981 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Soverato is located 33 kilometers south of Catanzaro on the coast of the Ionian Sea in the south of the Gulf of Squillace . The neighboring communities are Montepaone , Petrizzi and Satriano .

The place is a seaside resort with hotels, campsites and a beach. Soverato is on the Taranto – Reggio di Calabria railway line and was the starting point for the Soverato – Chiaravalle Centrale narrow-gauge railway .

The place was probably founded in the 10th century. The city was destroyed in earthquakes in 1783 and 1983.

At the end of July, the Magna Grecia Film Festival takes place in town.

In the district of Soverato Superiore, in the church matrice di Maria Santissima Addolorata, there is a marble group ( Pietà ) by Antonello Gagini .
