Gimigliano is an Italian town and comune in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 3167 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Gimigliano is located 20 km northwest of Catanzaro in the valley of the Corace River . The neighboring municipalities are Carlopoli , Catanzaro, Cicala , Decollatura , Fossato Serralta , Pentone , San Pietro Apostolo , Sorbo San Basile , Soveria Mannelli and Tiriolo . Gimigliano has a train station on the Cosenza – Catanzaro line .

The place originated in the 9th century. At this time, coastal residents fleeing the Saracens established new settlements in the mountains.

Attractions

The pilgrimage church was built in 1947. It is located about 4 km from the town center. The previous church was built in 1753. Every year at Pentecost, pilgrims come to the church. The goal is the image of the Madonna of the Costantinopoli, which legend says was completed by an angel in the 17th century.
