The area of ​​the municipality lies on a contour line from the Mediterranean Sea to 630 m above sea level and covers an area of ​​35.9  km² . history

There were settlements in the area of ​​the municipality of Gizzeria in ancient times, as is proven by findings in the area. In the 11th century a settlement was formed around the former monastery. Details are unknown. Albanians settled the country around 1450.
