history
The rebellious son Heinrich (VII.) (HRR) of the Hohenstaufen emperor Friedrich II. With his wife Queen Konstanze of Sicily , ten years older than him , died in February 1242 in a prison near Martirano as a result of a suicide attempt. His father had him buried in a Roman stone coffin with royal honors in Cosenza Cathedral . More recent research revealed, when an Italian research team examined the body in 2000, that Heinrich had leprosy. Prof. Rader (Humboldt University Berlin) contradicts this thesis in his biography about Friedrich II: After the end of the 18th century. the trace of the bones was lost. The bones found in 1934 were from a human 1.66 m tall and were leprous. However, none of the contemporary chroniclers had reported Heinrich's leprosy. But they would certainly have done that, since this illness was then considered a punishment from God.
