Humboldt County is a county in the state of Nevada in the United States . The county seat is Winnemucca .

history

The county was formed in 1856 after the separation from Utah as the first county and was named after the Humboldt River and thus after Alexander von Humboldt . The first county seat was Unionville from 1861 to 1873 . It is the oldest county in Nevada.

The county had 16,106 people as of the 2000 census . There were 5,733 households and 4,133 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.21% White, 0.51% African American, 4.02% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, and 8.54% other races Groups; 3.09% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 18.87% percent of the population.

Of the 5,733 households, 40.90% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 59.60% were married couples living together, 7.60% were single mothers. 27.90% were not families. 22.80% were single households and 6.30% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.28.

For the county as a whole, the population was 31.40% below the age of 18, 7.50% between 18 and 24, 31.20% between 25 and 44, and 22.30% between 45 and 64 7.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 110.30 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 110.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 47,147 , and the median income for a family is $ 52,156. Males had a median income of $ 44,694 versus $ 25,917 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,539. 9.70% of the population and 7.70% of families are below the poverty line. 10.40% of these were under 18 years of age and 10.80% were 65 years of age or older.
