Maida [pronunciation: 'maida ] is an Italian city in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 4643 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). In Vena di Maida there has been a long-established Arbëresh minority, who call the city Vina , since the 15th century .

Location and dates

Maida is located 35 km west of Catanzaro on the northeast slope of the Serre and 16 km south of Lamezia Terme . The neighboring communities are Caraffa di Catanzaro , Cortale , Feroleto Antico , Jacurso , Lamezia Terme, Marcellinara , Pianopoli , San Floro and San Pietro a Maida .

Most of the residents are employed in agriculture. Olives, lemons and kiwis are produced. Tourism is growing in importance.

Attractions

In the place are the remains of a medieval castle. The oratory of Santo Domenico has a valuable wooden ceiling.
