Daniel Larned Davis Granger (born May 30, 1852 in Providence , Rhode Island , † February 14, 1909 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1909 he represented the first constituency of the state of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Daniel Granger attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1874 Brown University in Providence. After studying law at Boston University and being admitted to the bar in 1877, he began working in his new profession in Providence. Between 1887 and 1890 he was an administrative clerk ( Reading clerk ) at the House of Representatives from Rhode Island . He then served as treasurer of Providence from 1890 to 1901. He was mayor of this city between 1901 and 1902 .

Granger was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1902 he was elected to the US House of Representatives. There he replaced the Republican Melville Bull on March 4, 1903 , whom he had defeated in the election. After he had also won the following congressional elections, Granger could remain in Congress until his death on February 14, 1909 .
