Edward Peter Beard (born January 20, 1940 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American politician . Between 1975 and 1981 he represented the second constituency of the state of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Beard attended Assumption Elementary School and Hope High School in Providence. Between 1960 and 1966 he was a member of the Rhode Island National Guard. There he used the training opportunities and studied agriculture. After this time he became a painter.

Politically, Beard joined the Democratic Party . Between 1972 and 1974 he was an MP in the Rhode Island House of Representatives . In 1976 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York , where Jimmy Carter was nominated as the party's presidential candidate. In the 1974 congressional election, Beard was elected to the Second District of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Robert Tiernan on January 3, 1975 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete a total of three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 .

In the 1980 elections he was defeated by Claudine Schneider from the Republican Party . After he left Congress, Beard ran a restaurant. Between 1986 and 2002 he was Providence City Manager. There he was responsible for senior affairs. In 1990 he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the congressional elections. Edward Beard now lives in his native Providence.
