Nehemiah Knight

Nehemiah Knight (* 23. March 1746 in Knight Ville (today Cranston , a suburb of Providence ), Colony of Rhode Iceland and Providence Plantations , † 13. June 1808 ) was an American politician , the Rhode Iceland in the US House of Representatives took .

Knight attended community schools and then engaged in farm work. He also worked as a town clerk from 1773 to 1800. He was elected to the General Assembly of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations twice, in 1783 and 1787 . In 1787 he was employed as the Providence County Sheriff . He was elected as a member of the Democratic Republican Party in the 8th , 9th and 10th US Congresses , where he served from March 4, 1803 until his death. Knight was buried in a small cemetery on Cranston Street and Phoenix Avenue in Knightsville, Providence.

His son Nehemiah R. Knight was the governor and US Senator of Rhode Island.
