Richard Jackson Junior

Richard Jackson junior (born July 3, 1764 in Providence , Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations , † April 18, 1838 ibid) was an American politician .

Jackson attended schools in Providence and Pomfret , Connecticut . He later worked in a trading company and went into cotton production . From 1800 to 1838 he was President of Washington Insurance Co. in Providence.

Jackson was elected a federalist in the 10th US Congress . The election had become necessary to fill the seat vacated by the death of Nehemiah Knight . Jackson was re-elected to the three subsequent congresses and represented the state of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives from November 11, 1808 to March 3, 1815 . He decided not to run for re-election in the 1814 congressional elections. He was also curator of Brown University from 1809 to 1838 .

His son Charles also embarked on a political career. Among other things, he was Governor of Rhode Island from 1845 to 1846 .
