John Linscom Boss

John Linscom Boss, Jr. (born September 7, 1780 in Charleston , South Carolina , † August 1, 1819 in Newport , Rhode Island ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the state of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school and law school, as well as his admission to the bar, John Boss began working in his new profession in Newport. He took an active part in the events of his time and held several local offices. Boss became a member of the Federalist Party and was a member of the House of Representatives from Rhode Island from 1806 to 1815 .

In the 1814 congressional elections, Boss was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington . There he took over from Richard Jackson on March 4, 1815 . After a re-election in 1816, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1819. Then his seat fell to Samuel Eddy of the Democratic Republican Party . Boss died just five months after the end of his term in his home town of Newport. Together with James Brown Mason , who held the second seat of the state in the House of Representatives between 1815 and 1819, John Boss was the last Congressman of his party from Rhode Island.
