Adin Ballou Capron (born January 9, 1841 in Mendon , Worcester County , Massachusetts , † March 17, 1911 in Stillwater , Rhode Island ) was an American politician . Between 1897 and 1911 he represented the second constituency of the state of Rhode Island in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Adin Capron attended the Woonsocket High School in Rhode Iceland and then the Westbrook Seminary near Portland ( Maine ). After finishing school he settled in Stillwater (Rhode Island), where he worked as a miller and in the grain trade. During the Civil War , he served in a Rhode Island volunteer unit on the Union side. By the end of the war, he rose to a major in brevet.

Politically, Capron was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1887 and 1892 he was an MP in the Rhode Island House of Representatives . From 1891 he was speaker of the house. In 1892 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . Four years later he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the second district of Rhode Island , where he succeeded Warren O. Arnold on March 4, 1897 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911. In 1910 he renounced another candidacy. Capron died in Stillwater two weeks after retiring from Congress.
