Denys Zacharopoulos

Denys Zacharopoulos ( Greek Ντένης Ζαχαρόπουλος , born June 11, 1952 in Athens ) is an art historian and art theorist who works as a professor of art history, author and curator. a. for the documenta IX and 48th Venice Biennale .

Life

Denys Zacharopoulos studied music at the Athens Conservatory and from 1970 in France literature , semantics and philosophy , then history and sociology of art and literature with Jean Cassou , Gaëtan Picon , Louis Marin and Roland Barthes . In 1975 Denys Zacharopoulos became program coordinator at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. Then stay in New York and teaching at various art academies in Switzerland, Austria and Holland.

During this time personal contacts with many artists of his generation, above all James Welling, Matt Mullican, Ernst Caramelle , Jean-Marc Bustamante , Juan Muñoz , Thomas Schütte and Reinhard Mucha .
