occupation

The Lord from the Other Star is a feature film by Heinz Hilpert from 1948 .

action

The Lord from the Other Star travels through space by concentration alone. When he passes the earth, his concentration is disturbed and he has to land. When it lands, the police immediately notice it. The police want to see his ID but he doesn't have one, so they take him to the office. There it is passed on from one point to the other, because it is considered dangerous because it can change or duplicate objects.

Because they cannot arrest him, they issue him with ID and keep an eye on him. He goes home with Flora, whom he met at the office. Actually he only wants to rest for two hours and then concentrate on going again, but they fall in love. So the Lord from the other star decides to stay on earth. Although he does not seem very comfortable to them, various media representatives, parties and criminals soon advertise him, but fail because of his shrewdness. When a general finally raves about the humanization of war with the help of the neutron bomb (not yet invented at the time) , the alien prefers to renounce his love and to float back into space. All those who had previously viewed him with suspicion are now erecting a monument to him and praising his conformism.

prolog

“Once upon a time there was a man named Aldebaran who lived on another planet. One day he went on a pleasure trip through space and landed on earth. He was different from the people on earth and they wished to get rid of him. Aldebaran would have left immediately if he hadn't fallen head over heels in love with a pretty girl. But this girl was very afraid for him because of Aldebaran's extraordinary abilities, and he now tried to be like everyone else. Now things were rapidly going downhill for him and he was afraid that he would never be able to leave the earth again. The girl's heart broke over it. But it loved him more like itself and released him again. Then he immediately became his old man again and spurred on traveling back to his star. The story of Aldebaran is ancient and true, and it happens again and again. "

background

The script is based on the short story by Werner Illing . The film was produced in the Bavaria Film studios in Geiselgasteig ; the outdoor shots come from Munich and the surrounding area.

The premiere of the film took place on July 13, 1948 in the Berlin Filmbühne in Vienna . It was shown at the Venice International Film Festival that same year . The final scene of the film was cut on the infrequent television broadcasts of the 1990s.

Reviews

“A stray star dweller lands on earth, takes the form of a person and experiences with a pure heart the constraints and pitfalls of earthly life, but also the joys of love. The attempt at a post-war satire dressed up in cabaret style, which fails due to the inconsistencies of the script and the lack of concept of the director. A leisurely entertainment film of subdued serenity, on which at best a lot of good will, the courage to improvise and the humane commitment can be positively noted. "

Frank-Burkhard Habel wrote in his book Cut Films that the film gains its charm from playing with Rühmann's traditional role model as a little man who is always adapted. This role model is used here and thwarted.
