German Limes Road
The German Limes Road is a tourist route for motorists. It follows the course of the UNESCO - World Heritage Limes Germanicus of Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube , touching 60 important Roman monuments and archaeological trails and hiking trails. On the route there are many interesting cultural and historical stations in Roman history in the Rhineland , Hesse , Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria .
The Deutsche Limes-Straße has existed since 1995 .
Course of the route
From the Rhine near Bad Hönningen, the 700 km route first leads through the Westerwald , Taunus and Wetterau . South of Hanau it crosses the Main , which it follows with a dangling through Aschaffenburg to Miltenberg . In the second part the Odenwald , the Hohenlohe Plain , the Swabian-Franconian Forest , the Swabian Alb and the Altmühltal are passed until the destination in Regensburg on the Danube is reached.

German Limes Cycle Route
The German Limes Cycle Path is a signposted long -distance cycle path that follows the Limes for over 800 km. The route runs from the beginning of the Limes near Rheinbrohl to Regensburg on the Danube.
Hiking trails
The German Limes Hiking Trail follows the Limes for 734.7 km. It is made up of various individual Limes hiking trails:
- The Limeswanderweg (= Limesweg) in the Westerwald and Taunus is a 126-kilometer long-distance path from Rheinbrohl to Lindschied .
- The Limes hiking trail (HW 6) of the Swabian Alb Association is a 245-kilometer long-distance trail from Miltenberg to Wilburgstetten . The section from Miltenberg to Osterburken is looked after by the Odenwaldklub as the Eastern Limes Trail (HW 37) .
- The Limesweg (route 46) of the Franconian Alb Association is a 150.7 kilometer long long-distance route from Wilburgstetten to Eining , a district of Neustadt an der Donau north of Bad Gögging . However, the Franconian Alb Association only bears the main responsibility for the 40 km from Wilburgstetten to Gunzenhausen .
- East of Gunzenhausen replaces Limes hiking the nature park Altmühltal the old way of the Franconian Albverein.

The German Limes Road Association in Aalen is responsible for the German Limes Road and the Limes Cycle Route . The association is an amalgamation of 83 places, districts and tourism communities. The common goal is to raise public awareness of the Limes as a remarkable and outstanding archaeological monument in Central Europe.
