Devin Darrell Green (born October 25, 1982 in Columbus , Ohio ) is an American basketball player . After completing his studies, Green played briefly in the highest-endowed professional league NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, before winning the German Cup in 2007 with RheinEnergie Köln . Later Green, who played in Puerto Rico and China in addition to engagements in Europe and the NBA Development League (D-League) , won the double in Bulgaria with Lukoil Akademik in 2011. Since 2014, he has played in the Venezuelan league for the Guaros de Lara.

Career

Green went to study at Hampton University in the town of the same name in Virginia , a historically Afro-American college . From 2001 to 2005 he played for the college team Pirates in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) of the NCAA . In its first year, the team again reached the national NCAA finals , in which one was defeated in the first round by the favorite huskies of the University of Connecticut . A year earlier, the Pirates without Green had defeated the highly favored Cyclones of Iowa State University in a historic "upset" in the first round when they participated for the first time. In 2003 as the defending champion and in 2005, however, they lost the final game in the MEAC championship tournament and could therefore no longer qualify for a final round in the remaining seasons of Green in the NCAA.

After Green was not considered in the NBA Draft 2005 , he came through the training camps of the NBA clubs to a commitment in the highest endowed professional league. In 27 missions of the NBA 2005/06 he was used an average of five minutes per game by the Los Angeles Lakers, who released him from his contract shortly before the beginning of the following season and gave him an engagement with their recently founded farm team Los Angeles D-Fenders in the D-League. However, Green left the team at the end of 2006 and signed a contract with the German champions RheinEnergie Köln in the German Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). In his first assignment a day after his engagement, he achieved his individual best point haul with 23 points in a championship game of the BBL against the Artland Dragons . With the Cologne team , Green then won the cup title with two points difference in the final against the same opponent, but in the semi-final series of the play-offs 2006/07 the defending champion surprisingly lost five games against the Dragons, who had previously defeated Berlin in the main round. The following season, Green returned to the D-Fenders in the D-League.

After Green failed to return to the Lakers squad in his second engagement with the LA D-Fenders, he moved back to Europe in February 2008 before the end of the season. With the club from Teramo in Abruzzo , however, he missed participation in the play-offs for the Italian championship in eleventh place . For the following season, Green stayed in Europe and signed a contract with the Belgian cup winner BASE from Ostend . At the turn of the year, Green also changed clubs again and went to the Ukraine for BK Dnipro from Dnipropetrovsk , who did not achieve a top placement in the split-off UBL. In the 2009/10 season Green played at Olympia from Larisa in the Greek A1 Ethniki . After the merger with local rivals AE Larisa , however, it was only enough to win four of the season and the last place in the table, which AEL had already occupied a year earlier as an independent club. In the summer of 2010, Green then played in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional for the Galitos from Isabela , before moving to the Chinese Basketball Association for the Sharks from Shanghai for the 2010/11 season . His engagement in China was short-lived and in January 2011 Green returned to Europe to the Bulgarian master Lukoil Akademik from Sofia . With the club, Green not only defended the championship title, but also won the double in 2011 with the title success in the national cup competition.

After Green had spent the summer months 2007 to 2009 in the NBA Summer League for the Miami Heat , San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves , only to be removed from the final season squad shortly before the start of the season, he returned to his home country for the 2011/12 season back and initially played in the D-League with the Erie BayHawks. After having a ten-day contract with the New York Knicks in December 2011 , he joined the Idaho Stampede in January 2012. For the following season 2012/13 he finally returned to Lukoil Akademik in Bulgaria, but they were eliminated early in the 2012/13 Eurocup . Subsequently, Green moved in February 2013 to the also eliminated group opponent Spirou BC from Charleroi , who had previously given Matt Walsh to the German champion Brose Baskets . The former series champion, however, retired before the final series of the championship. Also in the following season the Eurocup 2013/14 was not very successful and Green left the club after a year in March 2014. Then Green got a contract with the Guaros from Lara .
