action

Rochus Siwak, called Rocco, a rather unsuccessful rock musician and bon vivant, has to serve a social service in a retirement home as a suspended sentence. Immediately there are differences with the home manager and the nursing staff. In particular, the resolute but attractive station manager Marina is not ready to let the rascal Rocco dance around on her face. But he gradually realizes that it can be worthwhile to take old people seriously. By spending more and more time with them, he also missed an important performance by his previous band. Now he wistfully realizes that he has already been sorted out in the band. The home manager has Rocco put in front of the door and then searched the old people's cupboards because she wants to enforce a strict ban on alcohol and cigarettes in the home.

The process of realizing that the elderly also have the right to a life in freedom ultimately leads to the formation of a rock band led by Rocco. You practice in a building near the home, while the night nurse is sedated by the elderly with tranquilizers. The home manager Ms. Glück is amazed at the changes that she has observed among the home residents. One night she discovers the sedentary night nurse and then the "old people's home band". She is currently rehearsing and is shooting an application video for the band contest “The Stars of Tomorrow”. The home management burst into this rehearsal and insulted the old people as "senile, incontinent seniors, from whom they don't let themselves dance around" and then tried to have the police end the band activities.

The application video gets into the media and triggers huge media interest. Despite some setbacks - death of a band member, arrest of Rocco - the band, which calls themselves Rocco and the Pacemakers , wants to perform at the contest. In the last moment before the gig, Rocco joins the band and together they win the contest with the cover version of Live Is Life .

After Rocco has served his sentence, he is picked up by the band and Marina and drives off with everyone in the tour bus.

The comedy was continued with the title Die Spätzünder 2 - Heaven should wait 2013 with almost the old cast, in particular expanded to include Dieter Hallervorden .

The third part was not realized because of the death of Joachim Fuchsberger.

criticism

“Even if the criticism of dealing with old people remains tame: The sarcastic dialogues are a pleasure ( these senior biotopes wouldn't be so bad if not so many old people lived there! ). Old School of Rock cool fun "
