Back in New York, he sees the news that the body of a young woman, Nola Kellergan, has been found on Quebert's property. background
Emergence
A film adaptation for the cinema was planned as early as 2014. Warner Bros. had acquired the rights to the novel from Joël Dicker. Ron Howard would direct, Brian Grazer would produce with his company Imagine Entertainment . Even Steven Spielberg and Luc Besson have acted as directors. As actors in the role of Marcus Goldman, Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper were in conversation in the meantime, when the filming was already emerging as a series , and author Dicker also had the two as preferred candidates in mind. When their commitment did not work out and Patrick Dempsey, a well-known actor, could be engaged for the title role, the project was tailored more to the character of Harry Quebert than to Marcus Goldman.

reception
In Die Welt, Elmar Krekeler criticizes the lack of speed in the staging and says that director Annaud “perhaps with the false certainty that he doesn't have just two hours of narrative time, as usual in the cinema, but a good ten hours [...] to jump through the Chronology […] in contrast to Dicker in slow motion, as it were. The dialogues are "of a considerable simplicity of the mind" and "also aesthetically cinematic [is] Annaud's first series of the aesthetic daring of a Bremen" Tatort "from the mid-nineties."
