Quirky bestiary in the August Kestner Museum

Poster at the Museum August Kestner for the exhibition Bizarre Bestiary , extended until April 22, 2014

For the exhibition Skurriles Bestiarium in the Museum August Kestner in Hanover from 2013 to April 22, 2014 Dietlind Preiss created objects with deliberate references to antique exhibits in the museum, for example to baroque porcelain figures, silver drinking games from the 17th and 18th centuries or even to the medieval reliquary from the " Treasure of the Golden Table ". Her works produce “contemporary commentaries, imaginative, creative and profound comments” on the historical artefacts of the August Kestner Museum. In the foreword to the exhibition catalog , Museum Director Wolfgang Schepers wrote:

“ The collages of Kurt Schwitters can also be understood in Dadaist terms , and here the Hanoverian artist ties in with an important tradition. While Schwitters had tickets and program slips or newspaper clippings as a two-dimensional repertoire of his art, Dietlind Preiss made three-dimensional set pieces such as a Biedermeier glass from the war rubble of her house. "

"It goes without saying that the exhibits distributed throughout the museum in appropriate locations should also make you smile, but they are almost always designed comments on topics from art and history."
