The Lucre district is located in the Quispicanchi province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 17, 1941. It has an area of 118.78 km². At the 2017 census, 4,606 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 3804, in 2007 it was 3850. The district administration is located in the small town of Lucre with 2612 inhabitants (as of 2017). Lucre is just under 30 km east-southeast of the regional capital, Cusco .
Geographical location
The Lucre district is located in the Andes in the far west of the Quispicanchi province. The small town of Lucre, 3162 m high, is located in the river valley of the Río Lucre, a tributary of the Río Vilcanota (upper reaches of the Río Urubamba), which runs further north . The Lucre-Huacarpay wetland is located near Lucre . In the north, the district includes the lower river valley of the Río Huatanay up to its confluence with the Río Vilcanota.
The Lucre district borders on the Oropesa district in the north, the San Salvador ( Calca province ) and Caicay ( Paucartambo province ) districts in the northeast, the Andahuaylillas district in the east, and the Rondocan ( Acomayo province ) and Paruro ( province Paruro ) and in the southwest to the districts of Yaurisque (also in the province of Paruro) and San Jerónimo ( province of Cusco ).
