description

The three-part building complex consisting of a rectangular nave , a retracted choir tower and an apse is of Romanesque origin. In the 15th century the Romanesque apse was replaced by the addition of a sacristy . In the south the portal is in an extension. The plastered nave is provided with a slate-covered gable roof. The square choir tower including its eight-sided top is plastered. It is covered with a hood on which an open lantern is enthroned, which is crowned with a tower ball . Two bronze bells hang in the tower. The larger one bears the year 1820, the smaller one comes from a bell foundry in Apolda and, according to its inscription, dates from the 1960s.

In 1738–1740 the building was redesigned in baroque style. It was given a church interior, which in large parts still characterizes the appearance of the interior. The choir is spanned with a groin vault. The two windows in the choir have Art Nouveau motifs . The nave is covered with a flat ceiling made of stucco , which was fundamentally restored in 2010. The year 1888 in the triumphal arch testifies that work was carried out on the church in that year.

The pulpit altar decorated in plait style has Corinthian columns and entablature . A halo with three flames shines above the sound cover as a symbol of the Trinity . To the right and left of them are two large angel putti, the only figurative ornament in the room. On the back wall of the altar there is an inscription that the pulpit was painted on June 2, 1817. A baptismal font dates from around 1740.

The church is surrounded by two-storey galleries , the parapets of which were stenciled in 1888 . On the lower gallery in the west is the organ prospect from the time it was made. The organ with 13 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built in 1745 by Johann Georg Fincke and rebuilt in 1968 by Reinhard Schmeisser .
