In the 2008/09 season he went on the ice for the Sherwood Park Kings , another junior team in his hometown, in the Alberta Midget Hockey League . Previously, he was selected in the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League , a talent draw similar to the NHL Entry Draft , by the Saskatoon Blades in third position. The defender completed 34 games for the Kings in the regular season and came late in the 2008-09 WHL season on two missions for the Blades in the Western Hockey League.
From the 2009/10 season , Siemens was part of the Saskatoon Blades' regular squad. The Canadian made 57 regular season games, scoring three goals and 17 assists . In the subsequent play-offs, the Blades won the first round after a 4-0 sweep against the Red Deer Rebels . In the second round, the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Blades were defeated by the Brandon Wheat Kings 2: 4 games. Siemens was used in seven play-off games and remained without a scorer point .
The following season he played together with Stefan Elliott in a defensive row. The left shooter was used in all 72 regular season games for the Saskatoon Blades, scoring five goals and a total of 43 points. In addition, he collected 121 penalty minutes . In the play-offs, the Blades were eliminated in the second round against the eventual champions of the Western Hockey League, the Kootenay Ice . Previously, the Prince Albert Raiders were defeated in the quarterfinals . Following the 2010/11 season, Siemens was appointed to the WHL East Second All-Star team.
In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft - an annual event at which National Hockey League teams can secure the rights to young players - Duncan Siemens was selected in the first round in eleventh place by the Colorado Avalanche . On July 28, 2011, he signed a three-year entry - level contract with Colorado Avalanche. The defender was sent back to Saskatoon in the Western Hockey League for further development, where he was named team captain of the Blades prior to the start of the 2011/12 season .
After the Saskatoon Blades were defeated by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first round of the 2012 WHL play-offs , Siemens was appointed to Colorado's Lake Erie Monsters farm team in the American Hockey League , for which the defensive player in the 2011/12 AHL season had three more Games played. After he had completely spent the 2012/13 season with the Blades, he moved permanently to the organization of the Colorado Avalanche at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and played 46 games for the Monsters in the AHL.
During the 2014/15 season, Siemens made his debut for the Avalanche in the NHL, but continued to play in the AHL for the rest of the season. At the end of the 2017/18 season, his expiring contract was not extended. As a result, the defender was initially without a team before signing a contract with the Milwaukee Admirals from the AHL in December 2018 until the end of the season .
