geography

Eger catchment area

Eger origin

The Eger origin, not to be confused with the source of the other Eger flowing to the Elbe , is located in a water protection area near the fulling mill in the Aufhausen district of the city of Bopfingen in the Ostalb district in Baden-Württemberg . This contained karst spring at the foot of the Eastern Alb pours an average of 50 liters per second (minimum 20 l / s, maximum 900 l / s).

course

The Eger begins its course in an easterly direction, flows under the Ipf through Bopfingen and enters the very flat and completely open landscape of the Nördlinger Ries a little below the small town . There it turns directly to the northeast and runs through the walled medieval city of Nördlingen with a temporary right branch . Then the Mauch , its most important tributary, reaches it approximately in the middle of the Ries from the northwest, whereupon the combined river continues in the old direction of the Mauch to the southeast. At the southern edge of the Ries it deepens noticeably for the first time. It then flows from the right at Harburg - Heroldingen into Wörnitz , which comes from the north and which begins its southeastern breakthrough valley to the Danube .

The Eger lost its former catchment area in the north to the Jagst due to the Ries event .

Tributaries

List from source to estuary. Collected from LUBW-FG10 and BayernAtlas (formerly: BayernViewer). Where possible and sensible, with name, mouth side, mouth location and length. Water courses, lengths and areas preferably according to the LUBW data set entries, where available, if necessary measured on LUBW-FG10 or the BayernViewer. Names preferred after the card labels. Lengths rounded to the nearest hundred meters. Italicized and linked water names are used as proper names in one of the sources used, otherwise a descriptive name is used as a substitute, of which only the italicized parts (valley names, mountain names, common names, etc.) are proper names from the sources.
