Eggenthal

Eggenthal is a district of the Markt Heidenheim in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen ( Bavaria ).

location

The wasteland is in the Franconian Alb , 2 km south of Heidenheim and south of Mariabrunn in a side valley of the Rohrach . A stream that rises near Eggenthal leads to the Rohrach. State road 2384 runs past to the west in a north-south direction.

Surname

The place name is interpreted as "settlement in the valley of an Ecco"; Given the location, it cannot be associated with the Middle High German “ecke, egge” for “corner, edge, angle”.

history

The settlement "Egental" which is unlikely to be created before 900, was in the 13th century by Friedrich and his son Otto von Truhendingen the convent Heidenheim paid; In 1275 Otto's two brothers named Friedrich von Truhendingen agreed to the donation. In 1320 the Eichstätt bishop incorporated the large and small tithe of Eggenthal, which had previously been borrowed from the Eichstätter church . In 1400 the wasteland consisted of two estates, eight fiefs and some fields for which the monastery had to be given riches. When Mariabrunn was founded in the first half of the 15th century, the monastery added Eggenthaler fields to the new foundation. In 1148 there are still reports of 2 farms in Eggentahl, which were given to a farmer under inheritance law. In the 16th century (1513; 1544) there is only talk of 1 farm in Eggenthal, which after the secularization of the monastery is subordinate to the margravial monastery administrator's office. In 1616 it says: “Egenthal. A single baurnhoff; “he is vogtable and valid for the monastery office. After the Thirty Years' War , exiles from Upper Austria can be proven to have owned the Eggenthaler Hof.

In 1799 there is again talk of two subjects to "Egenthal". Until the end of the Holy Roman Empire , Eggenthal remained with the monastery office, but the bailiwick and the high Fraisch are - according to a document from 1732 - with the margravial Oberamt Hohentrüdingen .

At the end of the Holy Roman Empire, Eggenthal with its two half-courtyards was subject to the Prussian, former margravial Oberamt Hohentrüdingen since 1792 and the former margravial cloister administration office Heidenheim. Ecclesiastically, the place was assigned to the Protestant parish of Heidenheim.

The wasteland that became royal- Prussian with the margraviate of Ansbach became royal-Bavarian as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1806. When tax districts were formed in 1808 , Eggenthal came with several other wastelands and mills from the property of the former Heidenheim monastery to the Heidenheim tax district in the Heidenheim district court . Two years later, the tax district became the somewhat smaller rural community of Heidenheim, which Eggenthal also belonged to. By the community edict of 1818, Heidenheim was again a community in the district court of the same name in 1808. On July 1, 1862, the district court of Heidenheim became part of the district office (later the district) of Gunzenhausen , which was transformed into the larger district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen during the regional reform in Bavaria in 1971/72.

In 1833 Eggenthal included 14.3 hectares of arable land, 3.7 hectares of meadows and 14.6 hectares of forest.

Eggenthal biotope complex

About 500 meters east of the village is the Eggenthal biotope complex , a valley slope with limestone, semi- arid grassland , spring marshes , bushes and hedges. It houses an extremely valuable and species-rich fauna and flora and is one of the highest quality nature reserves in the district. Characteristic plant species include various types of orchids , the Davalls sedge , the broad-leaved cotton grass and the marsh stendrums . Numerous species of butterflies have also found a home here. The area was bought by the State Association for Bird Protection in 1985 and has since grown from 3.7 to 15 hectares through further purchases . It is looked after by the Landschaftspflegeverband Middle Franconia and local farmers who cultivate it extensively .
