The Ehrhardsmühle (also Erhardsmühle) was a grain and cutting mill in the Kleinziegenfelder valley . It was located on the Erhardsmühlbach , at the beginning of the short side valley that leads to Großziegenfeld , and is still partially preserved as a ruin. The property of the former Ehrhardsmühle, with its residential building and sawmill, is an officially named district of the city of Weismain .

history

The remains of the drive system of the Erhard mill in 2012

The Erhardsmühle was first mentioned in 1593 as "Küfenmüll" and was one of the oldest mills in the Kleinziegenfelder valley. Presumably it originated in the late Middle Ages . The year 1894 is carved into the still preserved door frame; However, it only indicates a remodeling of the mill. It belonged to the former tax community Großziegenfeld . From the first half of the 19th century, grain was ground in the mill with three overshot water wheels on two grinding stages and one ramming stage ; In an outbuilding, an overshot waterwheel also drove a cutting passage . In the middle of the 20th century, the milling of grain in the mill stopped. A few decades later, in 1970, the sawmill was abandoned and the collapsing mill was demolished in 1976. The remains of the foundation wall made of sandstone and parts of the drive system, which includes a metal mill wheel with a wheel axle and spur gear, have been preserved. The modern Erhardsmühle sawmill has been located near the ruins of the mill since the 1990s.

architecture

The building was described in 1962 as a "large, two-story building with a gable roof". The core of the mill came from the 17th, the eastern part from the 18th century. There was a half-timbered structure above the sandstone ground floor . The ornamental framework in the gable was decorated with simple and curved St. Andrew's crosses .
