The Ellert & Richter Verlag , 1979 in Hamburg established, is a publishing house for history, literature, art, business, guides, nature, travel, picture books and home. He is based in Hamburg-Ottensen .

In 1979 the publishing house was founded by Marita Ellert, Frank Grube and Gerhard Richter. Marita Ellert had previously trained as a bookseller and worked for Hoffmann und Campe Verlag . Frank Grube and Gerhard Richter both studied political science in Hamburg, and together they published and edited books for various publishers. Among other things, the Weimar Republic , everyday life in the Third Reich , flight and expulsion and the economic miracle (all in Hoffmann and Campe Verlag). In 1984 Frank Grube left, who was solely responsible for running Edition Maritim (co-founded by Gerhard Richter). In that year the publishing house also moved its headquarters from Schwanenwik on the Outer Alster to the Palmaille in Hamburg Altona . From 1990 to 2001 the publishing house resided in the Zeisehallen , then in the Große Brunnenstraße and since 2017 in the Borselhof in Hamburg-Ottensen. The publishing house has been headed by Marita Ellert-Richter and Gerhard Richter since 1979. Over 300 titles are available. 30 new publications are published annually.

In the first few years of its existence, the program focused on travel, travel books and calendars. The publishing house became known with the “White Series” and later with the book series “Eine Bildreise”, which found a large audience. Many of the publisher's books received awards: For example, American Nights by Freddy Langer and Eberhard Grames as well as One Year in the Aegean by Hans Madej the Prize of the Book Art Foundation (The Most Beautiful Books of the Federal Republic of Germany): the Alsace book by Klaus Bossemeyer and the band through the Port of Hamburg from Milan Horacek and Svante Domizlaff the Kodak photo book award .

In the 1990s, the focus of the program shifted to picture and text volumes on the subjects of gardens and history. The “Edition Ellert & Richter” published edited volumes on various topics such as “Trees”, “Potsdam”, “Lighthouses” and “Dahlias”.

Since 2000, the publishing house has been publishing the series of books “Hamburg Heads” initiated by the former Chancellor Helmut Schmidt together with the Zeit Foundation . Of the planned 50 volumes, 43 have been published so far.

With Uwe Böschemeyer's Das Leben meint mich , a guide was first published in 2001 by Ellert & Richter Verlag. Böschemeyer, logotherapist and student of Victor E. Frankl , gives meditations for every day of the year in this book. The 7th edition is available today (2019). Since then, the advice segment has become an integral part of the publishing program. In 2005 the publisher published the first book by the later bestselling author Stefanie Stahl , So am ich Eben (18th edition in 2019). Important authors in this area include Uta Allgaier, Alexandra Bischoff, Klaus-Michael Braumann , Leila Bust, Björn Thorsten Leimbach and Stephan Peeck.

With the book by Arno Surminski Winter Forty-Five or Die Frauen von Palmnicken , works of fiction have also been published since 2010. There are also regional thrillers ( Gunter Gerlach , Tod in Hamburg ) and poetry (Amelie Fechner, Das plump Leben und Licht und Schatten ).

In addition to the guides, travel guides and illustrated books on regional, especially North German topics, continue to shape the face of the publisher. There are also historical (e.g. Matthias Gretzschel : In the footsteps of Martin Luther ), music-historical (e.g. Eckard Kleßmann about Georg Philipp Telemann ) and cultural history books (e.g. Uwe M.
