Erik Rasmussen (born March 28, 1977 in St. Louis Park , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 597 games for the Buffalo Sabers , Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils during his active career between 1995 and 2009 has contested in the National Hockey League on the position of the center .

Career

Erik Rasmussen played from 1995 to 1997 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for the Minnesota Golden Gophers , the team of the University of Minnesota . In 1996 the team won the WCHA championship. Rasmussen scored 48 points in 40 games and was elected to the WCHA All- Rookie Team after the 1995/96 season . A little later he was selected in the first round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft in seventh position by the Buffalo Sabers . After another season in the WCHA, he played for two years both for the Sabers in the National Hockey League , as well as for their farm team Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League .

In the 1998/99 NHL season he reached the final of the Stanley Cup with the Buffalo Sabers , which the Sabers lost to the Dallas Stars . On July 24, 2002 Rasmussen was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings . In return, Buffalo received the player Adam Mair and a five-round vote for the 2003 NHL Entry Draft . After a season marked by injuries, the center was signed by the New Jersey Devils at the beginning of the 2003/04 season .

After three seasons for the Devils and another season in the American Hockey League for their farm team, the American moved to the Finnish SM-liiga to Porin Ässät . Erik Rasmussen completed 31 games for the team from southwest Finland in the 2008/09 season and ended his career with their graduation.

International

Rasmussen represented his home country with the US national team for the first time at the Junior World Cup in 1996 , where he and his team did not win any medals. At the Junior World Championship the following year , the Americans finished second after losing the final game against the Canadian national team 2-0. Rasmussen was behind Mike York the second most successful points collector of the US selection.

The center had its first and only appearance for the men's team at the 2002 World Cup , when the Americans lost to the Finnish national team in the quarter-finals .
