history

Etzmannsdorf am Kamp, picture postcard around 1900

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1487. It originally belonged to the rule of Gars and came to the rule of Horn and Rosenburg in 1621 . Until the middle of the 18th century the place had the right to hold a fair. Together with Wanzenau and Wolfshof , Etzmannsdorf am Kamp formed the three Holy Lands . This designation reminds us that in the 16th century these places did not follow the Reformation like many other places in the region , but remained in the Catholic faith.

On October 1, 1938, the local and cadastral community of Etzmannsdorf was incorporated into Rosenburg and became independent again on October 10, 1945. On January 1, 1967, the neighboring municipality of Wanzenau , which had been independent until then, became a district of Etzmannsdorf. Etzmannsdorf and Wanzenau have belonged to the market town of Gars am Kamp since January 1, 1971 .
