history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1487. It originally belonged to the rule of Gars and came to the rule of Horn and Rosenburg in 1621 . Together with Etzmannsdorf am Kamp and Wolfshof , Wanzenau formed the three holy countries . This designation reminds us that in the 16th century these places did not follow the Reformation like many other places in the region , but remained in the Catholic faith.
On October 1, 1938, the local and cadastral community of Wanzenau was incorporated into Rosenburg and became independent again on October 10, 1945. On January 1, 1967, the previously independent municipality became a district of Etzmannsdorf am Kamp , which has been part of the market town of Gars am Kamp since January 1, 1971 .
Wanzenau is still a place with a strong agricultural character. Numerous farmers have converted their farms to the rules of organic farming since the 1980s. In the 1970s, the actress Maria Schell lived on a farm in Wanzenau. In 1998 Wanzenau was one of the main locations for the film comedy Drei Herren with Karl Merkatz , Karl Markovics and Ottfried Fischer .
