history

On January 25, 1993, the Euregio Bavarian Forest - Bohemian Forest was founded in Cham . This was expanded on September 20, 1993 in Český Krumlov when the Mühlviertel joined the trilateral Bavarian - Czech - Austrian Euregio Bavarian Forest - Bohemian Forest - Mühlviertel . With the fall of the Iron Curtain , the main interest of the Euregio was initially to reduce mistrust between the countries and to start new talks. Politicians of the three countries took the Euregio on the German-Dutch border as a model and transferred the concept to the three-country region Germany - Austria - Czech Republic. The lead here were Dr. Christoph Leitl (Upper Austria), Ingo Weiß (Lower Bavaria) and Jan Vrána (Bohemian Forest). Guided by the idea of European neighborhood, the countries and regions approached each other again and intensified their cooperation and communication.

In 2004 the Euregio Bavarian Forest - Bohemian Forest was expanded through the addition of the Rottal-Inn district to the Euregio Bavarian Forest - Bohemian Forest - Lower Inn.
