Winner of the Evening Standard British Film Awards in the category Best Actor ( Best Actor ). The British Film Prize selects the best national film productions and filmmakers of the past calendar year and is usually awarded at the beginning of February.
The most successful in this category was Daniel Day-Lewis , who has won the award three times, followed by Bob Hoskins , Derek Jacobi and Ben Kingsley with two wins each. The winner agreed five times with the later BAFTA winner, three times (1984, 1990, 2008) with the later Oscar winner. In 2009, two main actors received the award for the first time. Welsh actor Michael Sheen for Frost / Nixon and Irish actor Pat Shortt for Garage.
