Fernando Antonio Pisani (born December 27, 1976 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Italian - Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 495 games for the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks in the National between 1993 and 2012 Hockey League on the position of the right winger . With the Edmonton Oilers, where he spent most of his career, Pisani reached the final for the trophy of the same name in the course of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2006 .
Career
Pisani was, after 103 points in 58 games with the St. Albert Saints in the Alberta Junior Hockey League , selected in the eighth round at 195th position by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft . Initially, Pisani played four years for Providence College in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations .
For the 2000/01 season, Pisani was finally signed by the Oilers, who first used him in their farm team , the Hamilton Bulldogs , from the American Hockey League . Overall, he stayed two seasons in Hamilton before he was appointed to the NHL squad for the first time during the 2002/03 season . He scored his first goal on February 5, 2003, against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . The first hat trick of his career he succeeded on March 1, 2003 against the Washington Capitals . He finished his first NHL season at the age of 27 with 13 points in 35 games.
During the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , the Canadian played in Europe, where he played in the Swiss National League A for the SCL Tigers and the Italian Serie A for Asiago Hockey . In the 2005/06 season Pisani scored 18 goals, 19 assists and a total of 37 points in the regular season. The Oilers reached the playoffs as the main round eighth and stood against the Carolina Hurricanes in the final of the Stanley Cup . Pisani attracted attention when he scored two goals in the last third of the sixth game of the first round against the Detroit Red Wings . The Oilers won the round surprisingly after games 4: 3. In the second round against the San Jose Sharks Pisani again scored two goals in one game, including the winning goal. In the Stanley Cup final against Carolina, the Oilers ran the risk of being eliminated in the fifth game. After 60 minutes of play, it went into overtime . Pisani scored the Oilers to victory with his second goal in this game and were able to shorten it to 2: 3 in the final round. In the seventh and final game, Pisani scored a goal and Carolina won the 2006 Stanley Cup. Pisani scored a total of 14 goals in the 2006 playoffs, including five wins.
Pisani extended his contract with the Oilers by four years for a total of ten million dollars. In the 2006/07 season , the Oilers could not qualify again for the playoffs. Pisani won in 77 main round games, 14 goals and 14 assists. The Oilers tried to focus on the 2007-08 season . Pisani was only able to play 56 games due to injury and scored 13 goals and nine assists. In 2007 Pisani was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy , but the award went to Jason Blake of the Toronto Maple Leafs .
In the 2008/09 season , the striker fell out again due to injury after only 16 games. After only 40 completed games, with a total of eight points, in the 2009/10 season, the contract with the Oilers ran out. In August 2010, Pisani signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks . After the contract expired, the Italo-Canadian was initially without a club, before he decided at the beginning of 2012 to join the Swedish second division team Södertälje SK , where the attacker received a four-month contract. After only three games in HockeyAllsvenskan , his contract was terminated prematurely a few days later. The Italian-Canadian then ended his active career.
Subsequently, Pisani worked as a trainer. Initially from 2013 to 2016 as an assistant coach for the ice hockey team at the University of Calgary , since then as a junior coach for the Edmonton Oil Kings from the Western Hockey League .
