Meat is my vegetable (film)
Meat is my vegetables is a film by the German director Christian Görlitz from 2008, which opened in German cinemas on April 17th, 2008. The film, shot in Hamburg and the surrounding area, was produced by the new German film company and the NDR based on the autobiographical novel of the same name by Heinz Strunk .
action
In the mid-1980s, the young unemployed hobby musician Heinz Strunk lived with his mentally ill mother in a row house district in Hamburg-Harburg . He suffers from extreme acne and, apart from his depressed neighbor Rosi, has hardly any social contacts. When he got the opportunity to join “Tiffany's” as a saxophonist, a mediocre dance music band that entertains with atmospheric music at various village and shooting festivals, in old people's homes and at weddings, he was able to keep himself afloat financially. But he dreams of releasing songs he has written himself, which is impossible in his mood band, which is tightly led by singer Gurki. When his mother initially moved to a closed facility, he was able to use the mother's apartment as a rehearsal room, despite all the stress that it entailed. Another collaboration with singer Anja is unnecessary when she moves away to study. 'Castings' of other singers, such as the left-wing alternative Jette, remain unsuccessful.
After the death of his mother and his neighbor Rosi, a new chance arises for Heinz when he makes casual contact with a music manager whose aging ex-star he came to the aid of in a fire accident. He wins Jette over for a joint attempt to create their own pop song, which promptly becomes a hit.
This action forms the framework for an intensive look at the milieu, portrayed with laconic humor and ironic 80s nostalgia: shooting festivals and other celebrations of the 'common people' characterized by perseverance and resignation, saturated with alcohol and mood music.
Awards
The Wiesbaden Film Assessment Office awarded the film the rating “valuable”. This award was justified in a corresponding report as follows:
“The view into the life of the young Heinz Strunk, his relationship with his mother with touching moments, with his neighbor and his failed attempts to set up music productions with various female singers is very realistic and realistic. [...] The fact that Heinz Strunk, together with a deer, also comments on the sometimes wild life and goings-on increases the fun of watching. Not to forget the reference to the good camera work, a smart montage and delightful transitions with text overlays as well as the selection of the soundtrack, without which the fun would only have been half as great. "
The actors Susanne Lothar and Andreas Schmidt were nominated for the German Film Prize 2009 in the category “Best Supporting Role”. Schmidt won the award.
