history
The current district of Floresta was built around a train station that opened on August 29, 1857. It was the first railway connection in Argentina that led here from the now defunct “Plaza Del Parque” station in Buenos Aires. To commemorate this, the district day is celebrated every year on August 29th.
In 1914, the "Avellaneda Park" was created on a property that had previously belonged to a monastery. The Italian immigrant Felix Barabino built himself a house in Floresta, which at the time was the most imposing in the district. Today the Floresta Historical Society is housed there and it also maintains a library.
Sports
Floresta is home to the All Boys who play in the Estadio Islas Malvinas . The world cup winner CA Vélez Sársfield was originally based here. But he moved to Liniers .
