The airport Balıkesir-Koca Seyit , formerly Körfez Havalimanı (golf airport) is a Turkish regional airport at the apex of the bay of Edremit, whose catchment area extends from Assos in the north to Ayvalık or Altınova in the south of the bay. The airport, which is operated by the state-owned DHMI , should not be confused with the Balıkesir Merkez airport in the provincial capital of Balikesir, 76 km away . The namesake Koca Seyit was a local hero of the Battle of Gallipoli in 1915.
The airport was opened in 1997 and is used exclusively for civil purposes. It has a new terminal built in 2008 with a capacity of 120,000 passengers per year and a paved runway (3000 × 45 m), which however does not have an instrument flight landing system (ILS). The apron has a size of 240 × 120 meters and can accommodate 5 to 6 commercial aircraft.
