The airfield Am Salzgittersee is a glider airfield in the immediate vicinity of the north bank of the Salzgittersee. The airfield is approved for gliders , motor gliders and hot air balloons . The nickname in the radio is Lebenstedt-INFO.

The placeholder for the glider site is the Aero Salzgitter eV sports association

history

The sports community was founded in 1950 and was originally located in the Salzgitter district of Lebenstedt , there in the northern district of Fredenberg . In 1971 almost all of the club's inventory was destroyed by a major fire in addition to the aircraft.

Due to the advancing development of the Fredenberg district, the site had to be abandoned. In 1974, today's glider flying site on Salzgittersee was developed with the support of the city of Salzgitter .

The new opening and commissioning took place on June 5, 1975.
