François Picard (born April 26, 1921 in Villefranche-sur-Saône , † April 29, 1996 in Nice ) was a French racing driver .
Career
Picard began racing a Renault 4CV in 1949 . At the beginning of the 1950s, he replaced the Renault with a Porsche , with which he won a sports car race in Agadir in 1952 . From 1953 Picard became a well-known Ferrari privateer who mainly drove races in France and North Africa. In 1954 his compatriot Charles Pozzi was his partner. The duo won the 12-hour races in Reims and Hyères .
In 1955, Picard competed in his races in a Ferrari 500 Monza and finished second in the Coupe de Paris and third in the Agadir Grand Prix and the Paris 1000 km race .
In 1958 he drove the only monoposto race of his career. At the Morocco Grand Prix he started the race from 24th on the grid in a Cooper T43 , which was registered by Rob Walker . During this Formula 1 World Championship race , he had a serious accident when he crashed into the spinning racing car of Belgian Olivier Gendebien . Picard suffered serious injuries. He made a full recovery, but his racing career was over.
