Franz Beyerle

Franz Nikolaus Sales Beyerle (full name Franz Sales Nikolaus Beyerle , born January 30, 1885 in Konstanz , † October 22, 1977 in Wangen near Radolfzell ) was a German lawyer and legal historian .

Life

Franz Beyerle came from a strictly Catholic family of lawyers. His father, the Konstanz lawyer Karl Beyerle, was active in various Catholic parties. His brother is the legal scholar and central politician Konrad Beyerle , his sister the educator and politician Maria Beyerle . He was married to Erika Maria, born in 1928. Joswich; There are three sons from the marriage, including Hatto Beyerle (conductor) and Burkhart Beyerle (visual artist).

After attending the Konstanz humanistic grammar school, he went to the monastery school in Seckau / Styria from 1898 to 1902; he graduated from high school in 1903 as an external student. Then he studied law at the University of Breslau and from 1905 at the University of Freiburg . In 1905 he resigned from the Catholic Church (" Germanischer Heide "). In 1907 he completed his studies at the University of Göttingen . In 1907 he passed his state examination in Freiburg im Breisgau and became a legal intern in Constance. In 1910 he received his doctorate from the Göttingen University under Ferdinand Frensdorff . In 1913 he completed his habilitation under Karl Rauch in Jena . After doing voluntary military service, he was wounded in 1915 (stiffening of the right leg).

Franz Beyerle taught as a private lecturer at the University of Jena as early as 1913 ; In 1917 he was appointed associate professor there. In 1918 he was offered an appointment at the University of Basel to succeed Hans Planitz and Eckart Meister . In 1929 he moved to the University of Greifswald , 1930 to the University of Frankfurt am Main , 1934 to the University of Leipzig and in 1938 to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg as successor to Walther Merk . In 1941 he became a corresponding member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . In 1953 he was in Freiburg emeritus , was succeeded by Hans Thieme .

In teaching and research, Beyerle represented German legal history, private law, civil law, German civil law, German law and its history.

He was chairman of a ruling chamber of the denazification commission ; although he had joined the Nazi Lawyers' Association in 1933. In 1955 he received an honorary doctorate from Dr. phil. hc from the University of Frankfurt am Main. In 1963 the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings made him an honorary member.
