Franz Novotny ( Austrian Film Award 2017 )

Franz Novotny (born May 30, 1949 in Vienna ) is an Austrian author , director and producer .

Life

He attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and became a camera assistant . In the 1970s he mainly shot artist portraits for Austrian television. He became known in 1977 through the television film Die Staatsoperette . He established himself as a director through his first two feature films. He is one of the most important representatives of the Austrian avant-garde film of the 1960s and 1970s. When director Franz Novotny finished his film “Die Spitzen der Gesellschaft” in 1990, the real killing of two horses for slaughter in front of the camera caused a stir.

His preferred areas of work are motion pictures, television series and commercials. In 1995 he founded his own film company with Karin Novotny: Novotny & Novotny .
