Franziska Schubert (politician)
Franziska Schubert (born May 3, 1982 in Löbau ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and a member of the Saxon state parliament . She has been the leader of the Greens in the state parliament since January 2020.
Life
Franziska Schubert grew up in Neugersdorf and passed the Abitur examination in 2000. After a voluntary ecological year in Weißwasser , she completed the European Studies course at the University of Osnabrück with a bachelor's degree from 2001 . This course included the subjects of politics, economic and social geography and sociology. From 2004 to 2005 she studied international relations in Budapest with the help of a DAAD scholarship , before returning to Osnabrück in 2007 for a master’s degree. Schubert conducted research in Hungary on the effects of Hungary's accession to the EU on the Hungarian-Romanian border relationship using the example of the border town of Gyula. From 2009 she was teaching at the University of Dresden . Her focus is on the development of border regions, urban and regional development and dealing with demographic change in Eastern Germany and Eastern Europe.
In 2012, Schubert won new territory for the Robert Bosch Foundation . Today she is a member of the program jury.
With the support of the Upper Lusatian district associations Görlitz and Bautzen-Budyšin, Schubert was elected to the ninth place in the list for the state elections. After the state elections in Saxony in 2014 , according to the results of which the Greens were entitled to eight seats in parliament, she moved up to the state parliament for the top candidate Antje Hermenau , who gave up her mandate.
For the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament, she was the financial policy spokeswoman and member of the petitions committee in the 6th legislative period (2014–2019) . She is also spokeswoman for religious policy and for Sorbian affairs, and has been deputy parliamentary group leader since 2015.
Schubert has been a member of the Görlitz district assembly for her party since 2014 . 2014–2019 she was the first and only green member of the city council of Ebersbach-Neugersdorf . She is a co-founder of the Upper Lusatia Alliance.
Franziska Schubert has also co-founded various associations, for example LEBENs (T) RÄUME eV or Neuland haben eV
Schubert ran for the mayoral election in Görlitz on May 26, 2019 as a joint candidate of the Bürger für Görlitz eV, the Bündnisgrünen and Motor Görlitz. Later she also received support from the SPD and The Party. In the first ballot she came with 27.9% of the Simmen on the third-best result behind the candidate of the AfD Sebastian Wippel (36.4%) and the state parliament member of the CDU Octavian Ursu (30.3%). She did not run in the second ballot. Schubert called on their voters to vote for an open European city.
Schubert is a member of the seventh Saxon state parliament (2019-2024). As a member of the negotiating team, she was involved in the coalition negotiations before the Kretschmer II cabinet was formed. She is the financial policy spokeswoman for her group. On January 28, 2020, she was unanimously elected as the successor to Wolfram Günther as parliamentary group leader.
